Description
This report provides a comprehensive overview of the main feminist movement actors, mobilizations
and trajectories in Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey. The report
analyses the development of feminist movements according to the main themes of the project: labor
market, health and reproductive rights, migration, LGBTQ+ rights, and gender-based violence.
In this report, we will first present the silences and voices of feminism in social movement studies. This
introductory part will address interpretative lines as well as gaps which our project aims at filling in.
Second, we will present the main objectives of the FIERCE project with regard to the state of the art of
the literature on feminist movements, and the working definitions of feminist movements that we
engaged with in our research. Third, we will give an overview of the feminist movements in time and
space, by reviewing key findings of the literature on feminist movements in the eight countries. Fourth,
we include the methodological guidelines according to which this report has been prepared. According
to these guidelines, the national reports will be presented following sections of analysis. These sections
will first outline the history of the feminist movements and the actors, organizational models and allies
that have been developed as they are delineated in the existing literature. Then, the themes and
agenda that comprise, but are not limited to, the five thematic areas explored by the FIERCE project
(labor market, health and reproductive rights, migration, LGBTQ+ rights and gender-based violence)
are explored. These sections also address repertoire of action, frames of arguments, and campaigns
and debates for each country case. Finally, the national reports look at key policy related outcomes.
Each report includes a list of feminist movements’ campaigns related to the five thematic areas, or to
further key issues/themes that have emerged from each specific national context. This list is intended
to help the sampling of feminist campaigns and networks to be covered through fieldwork in the
second stage of the project.
