Between 2022 and 2025, PREP4BLUE developed a suite of citizen engagement training workshops and capacity building resources. These have been designed to empower those engaged in Mission Ocean & Waters-relevant activities to align their work with the citizen engagement targets of the Mission, while increasing social inclusion, reach, and overall success of aquatic research and advocacy.

This report synthesises the key learnings and outcomes of PREP4BLUE’s experience of developing these resources. The aim of this report is not to summarise the content of the training that was delivered. Much of this is available as recorded resources HERE1 on the PREP4BLUE website and YouTube playlist. Rather, the report will outline good practices in running any type of citizen engagement training for Mission Ocean & Waters to capacitate the Mission Ocean & Waters Community of Practice to design their own impactful citizen engagement training programmes in line with the Mission’s targets.

In all, we have delivered 20 expert-led workshops, training 1020 participants from at least 44 countries with another 1809 YouTube views to date (2829 total). Workshop materials were disseminated to 800+ registered email addresses as well as online, through partner networks, and to a list of 150+ National Contact Points for the EU Missions, who were encouraged to circulate them to relevant project consortia and Research and Innovation institutions.
