EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

One of the main purposes of the SECURE project is to make available W-188/Re-188 generators or batch activities of Re-188 respectively to revitalize the research towards Re-188 radiopharmaceuticals. As currently no large-scale use of W-188/Re-188 is common, this project wants to assure a sufficient and cheap supply to allow performing experiments, designing radiopharmaceuticals and even pre-clinical evaluations. This is better accomplished with a hands-on method for harvesting small quantities of Re-188 from a W-188 solution.
The process to produce a relatively cheap and small W-188/Re-188 generator is currently being developed by SCK CEN, and the first R&D prototype of such a generator has successfully been demonstrated as a part of the work performed in Task 3.5 of WP3. Throughout the course of the project, SCK-CEN will assure a supply of W-188 solution and/or generated Re-188 (if transport times permit) to NCBJ and UMCL for verification of its quality by using in radio-labelling studies.
SCK CEN will also supply its R&D harvesting process to all parties in- or outside the consortium who wish to set up their own “R&D generator”. All supply will be restricted to supply for nonprofit R&D purposes only.
