D7.1 MOVING Policy Roadmap

Description

The MOVING Policy Roadmap is a strategic framework designed to help unlock the potential of Mountain Product Value Chains (MPVCs) to enhance the sustainability and resilience of mountain areas. The Roadmap is an output of the EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation project, Mountain Valorisation Through Interconnectedness and Green Growth (MOVING).

The MOVING Policy Roadmap is a dynamic tool aimed at guiding policymakers, public authorities, civil society organizations, and researchers in shaping policies that support the sustainable development of mountain regions. The Roadmap's ultimate goal is to support the creation of a more favourable policy environment that helps MPVC actors leverage the distinctive natural, social, and cultural assets of mountain areas to foster economic development, environmental sustainability, and social well-being.

The MOVING project adopted a participatory approach, integrating socio-ecological system (SES) concepts with value chain analysis to evaluate how MPVCs can balance socio-economic development with natural resource conservation. This approach involved extensive stakeholder engagement, including 23 regional case studies and the involvement of approximately 1,000 stakeholders. The findings were used to co-create a set of 30 policy recommendations aimed at enhancing the positive impacts of MPVCs on the sustainability and resilience of mountain territories.

The Roadmap is structured around eight Policy Building Blocks, each addressing critical aspects of the inter-relationships between MPVC and mountain area development.
