Description
The overarching aim of HiAOOS is to fill observation gaps in the ice-covered Arctic Ocean. A multidisciplinary network of bottom anchored moorings, floats, and drifting ice buoys will be operated in the Eurasian Basin from 2024 to 2026. The network will integrate ice-ocean measurements (physical, and biogeochemical) at fixed locations, passive acoustic data, acoustic thermometry, and underwater geo-positioning of floats. Passive acoustic data will be used to monitor vocalizing marine life, geophysical hazards (e.g., earthquakes, landslides, or tsunamis) and human activities. Novel solutions are developed to improving data retrieval from subsurface moorings. HiAOOS will contribute to a Pan-Arctic multipurpose observing network.
