CROSS project: Career Management Services for European Talents
Recognising the opportunities that the European Competence Framework for Researchers (ResearchComp) offers, CROSS intends to leverage ResearchComp, thus contributing to wider implementation of the European framework to attract and retain research, innovation and entrepreneurial talents in Europe and the new Charter for Researchers, leading to more open, intersectoral and interoperable careers.
Objectives
The consortium of CROSS connects research performing organisations (RPOs), including higher education institutions as well as private and public sector entities from seven European countries. It aims at achieving impact on European, national as well as regional level by defining its principal objective:
Establishment of four talent ecosystems that will enable a sustainable talent circulation and development of a better-balanced research workforce within the European Research Area (ERA).
CROSS will:
- Develop a career support toolbox for broad use across European countries, piloted in four specific ecosystems by:
- (1) Provide researchers with a self-assessment tool to evaluate their transversal skills, identifying both strengths and gaps.
- (2) Enable competent career advisors to assist researchers in creating personalised career tracks based on the aforementioned self-assessment.
- (3) Offer training opportunities through the respective RPO, as CROSS outlines the way for RPOs towards delivering a comprehensive transversal skills training.
- (4) Provid access to mentoring services to ease the transition beyond academia.
- (5) Highlight concrete career options that further increase researchers’ chances of pursuing opportunities beyond academia.
- Promote organizational change by raising awareness of and promoting the engagement to the European Charter’s Principles for the enhancement of researchers’ employability in European institutions through establishing an HRS4R Repository and support network for institutions fostering the implementation of the New Charter for Researchers.
- Build intersectoral networks at local, national and cross-border, centered around academic institutions piloting and implementing the CROSS career support toolbox.
- Both the career support toolbox and the intersectoral networks are leveraged by an international ResearchComp Community of Practice, connecting stakeholders from various sectors around the ResearchComp.
The career support toolbox and the HRS4R Repository together form comprehensive career management services for institutions, representing a key output of CROSS.
