Astronomical Laser Frequency Combs for fundamental physics and cosmology; Pushing boundaries on precision and accuracy
Description
Two of the science goals for the upcoming Extremely Large Telescope are the search for fundamental constant variations and measurement of the redshift drift. Both goals require metrology systems that improve the accuracy and precision of spectroscopic measurements by almost two orders of magnitude over what is currently attainable. Astronomical Laser Frequency Combs promise to provide this.
I will present lessons learned from the use of Laser Frequency Combs on HARPS and what challenges need to be resolved in order to facilitate the fundamental physics and cosmology projects planned with ELT/ANDES.
