Eucalymnatus COckerell in COckerell & ParrOtt 1901

Description

Genus Eucalymnatus Cockerell in Cockerell & Parrott, 1901

Type species: Lecanium tessellatum Signoret, 1873, by original designation.

Diagnosis. Polygonal sclerotized plates irregularly present on dorsum (Fig. 30C); ventral tubular ducts absent; legs each with a tibio-tarsal articulatory sclerosis (Fig. 31G) (Hodgson 1994; Hamon & Williams 1984).

Remarks. Eucalymnatus comprises 11 described species, mostly restricted to Brazil, Guatemala and Guyana in the Neotropical region except for the cosmopolitan species, E. tessellatus. Mature adult females of the genus are easily recognized by the polygonal sclerotized plates on the dorsum (Hodgson 1994; García Morales et al. 2016).
