D3.2 - EMR Component Report
Authors/Creators
Description
This document, D3.2 – EMR Component Report, defines the design, fabrication, characterization and testing of the magnetoresistive (MR) component.
The document discusses:
- The choice of material for the MR component in the context of NOVETROL project
- The differences between developing a MR device for sensing applications based on the effect commonly labelled as extraordinary magnetoresistance (EMR) and developing a MR device for current limiting applications
- The development of analytical expressions to estimate the resistance of the MR element with and without the presence of a magnetic field as a function of geometry and relevant material properties
- The modelling and simulation of such devices via Finite Element Modelling (FEM) approach using commercial software
- The fabrication procedure followed in clean room environment to obtain the desired components as designed
- The characterization steps used in the Magnetics Laboratory to obtain experimental data from the samples, and understand their electrical and magnetic behaviour
From requirements defined previously in D2.1 - Report on NOVETROL Use Cases and Scenarios and D3.1 - System Specifications, a set of resistance values at zero and high magnetic fields for each use case can be obtained, which will guide the design of the MR elements.
