D2.1 - A proposed business model, Business propositions for the FIDELIS Network
Authors/Creators
Description
This report proposes a path to a sustainable business model through the application and testing of three distinct business propositions for the FIDELIS Network, a European network of Trustworthy Digital Repositories (TDRs) that endorse the TRUST principles. The FIDELIS Network was launched in April 2025, enabling early testing of value creation, operational costs, and financing throughout the project’s duration (2025-2027).
Rather than presenting a definitive business model, this report focuses on defining and validating business propositions to be iteratively tested throughout the project. This ensures the final model is evidence-based and aligned with Network members' needs. Testing and gathering feedback will enhance the understanding of the value and operational sustainability, reducing the risk of an ineffective model.
This document, alongside the "Governance Model Proposal," represents the first step in this development. Both the business model and governance proposals will be further refined and tested during 2026, the second year of the FIDELIS project, leading to the publication of a sustainability plan in December 2026. This plan will lay the groundwork for a post-project budget and work plan, to be reviewed and approved by FIDELIS Network members in August 2027.
