Summary report of R&D project: Development of fine-sampling calorimeters with nanocomposite scintillating materials (NANOCAL)

Creators

Description

The NanoCal project explored nanocomposite scintillators based on quantum dots for use in high-energy physics calorimetry. Initial beam tests showed insufficient light output, shifting focus to material characterization. Studies revealed inefficient energy transfer from particles to luminophores, despite strong photoluminescence. Test benches and techniques were developed to investigate this behavior. Continued collaboration between materials science and HEP researchers is key to advancing these materials for practical use.
