Application of medicinal trees and shrubs to treat gastrointestinal nematode infestations

Description
This poster, available for download and printing, is specifically designed for use in workshops with farmers or extension actors. It facilitates reflection and learning regarding the application of medicinal trees and shrubs to treat gastrointestinal nematode infestations. Its purpose is not just to inform, but to encourage exchange of experiences and traditional knowledge among farmers and inspire with practical knowledge that can be immediately applied in the field.
The efficacy of chemical treatments for gastrointestinal helminths and nematodes is increasingly impaired due to the emergence of resistance among these parasites. However, it's inspiring to note that farmers have successfully applied various indigenous shrubs and trees in the Sahel region to mitigate these infestations, offering a hopeful and more affordable alternative.
As part of the Sustain Sahel project, an ethnobotanical study was conducted by Aminata Beye, Linda Traoré, Mamadou Coulibaly, and their colleagues at different research institutions across Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal, France, and Germany. The team interviewed farmers in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Senegal to identify specific shrubs and trees that are effectively utilized to treat animals and mitigate pasture contamination.
