UCLALES-SALSA: large-eddy-simulations with aerosol-cloud-ice-precipitation interactions

Description

This version, based on the UCLALES-SALSA-DEV branch, includes now calculation modules to account for :

  1. Secondary ice production (SIP) through the mechanisms of rime splintering, droplet shattering and ice-ice collisional breakup. Each mechanism employs an specific parameterization for the ice multiplication factor (IMF) or number of secondary ice particles per SIP event. It is also possible to adjust the limiting size of hydrometeors involved in a SIP event (e.g. droplet-ice collision).
    IMF-Parameterizations included:
    *** Rime splintering: Hallet and Mossop (1974) or Mossop (1976) with different temperature-dependence options
    *** Droplet shattering: Lawson(2015), Sullivan et al. (2018), Phillips et al. (2018)
    *** Ice-ice collisional breakup: Sullivan et al. (2017), Sotiropoulou et al. (2021), Phillips et al. (2017) modified by Grzegorczyk et al. (2023, 2025)

  2. Electrostatic enhancement of hydrometeor collisions during seeding operations. It is possible to introduce point, surface of volume sources of aerosol particles with or without electrical effects on their collision-coalescence processes. The charge to be carried from aerosol to cloud droplets during cloud droplet formation process. The current model version saves time dependent tracers mapping the droplet charging effects on coalescence growth for precipitation droplets, aerosol particles and cloud droplets from both aerosol regimes (A and B). The temporal and spatial variation of these tracers can be followed and allow to assess different types of seeding techniques (e.g. cloud base or in-cloud, glaciogenic seeding).

  3. New fortran code for faster post-processing of binned and non-binned variables. Thanks to the codes of @TomiRaatikainen in https://github.com/UCLALES-SALSA/UCLALES-SALSA/blob/IceDevelOrg/script/combine.f90
