Multithreaded XIOS version adapted to many‐core architectures, and supporting GRIB2 format (D2.4)

Description

The developments realised in XIOS to extend its parallel efficiency by adding multithreading capacity are presented. These will be available to users in the next release XIOS‐3 planned for summer 2019.
The heavy workflow generated by the climate models and the hybrid architecture of modern computers require the XIOS library to extend its parallelism to the thread level. With this motivation, we developed a
portable multithreaded interface for XIOS based on the concept of MPI endpoints. The multithreaded version of XIOS was developed and then integrated and tested in the LMDZ model. The performance report
of the multithreaded XIOS is detailed in this deliverable. We also present in the appendix the detailed multithreaded interface.
