Description

Subject: This is an interdisciplinary lesson. It combines multiple subjects, specifically SPHE (Social, Personal & Health Education).


Abstract: In this lesson, children will be encouraged to question how we judge others and decide who to treat fairly or unfairly. The activities aim to help children appreciate and respect all forms of diversity, including cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity, as well as differences in ability and interests. The lesson seeks to raise awareness among children that everyone has a right to be different and that these differences can greatly enrich our daily lives.


Lesson Plan Method: The lesson employs various instructional methods, including face-to-face learning and collaborative learning.


Age of Students: 11-12-year-olds


Preparation Time: 20 minutes


Teaching Time: 65 minutes


Learning Objectives: By completing this learning plan, students will achieve learning outcomes and develop skills such as:

  • Defining prejudice and discrimination.
  • Identifying different types of discrimination.
  • Describing how to differentiate between prejudice and discrimination.
  • Reflecting on what we value and what we value in others.
  • Appreciating people’s similarities and differences.
  • Exploring the experiences of being valued and not being valued.
  • Developing empathy, respect, and tolerance.
  • Practicing skills such as reflection, group discussion, cooperative learning, and creative expression.
