Fig. 3. The biosynthetic pathway of the three subclasses of benzoxazinones in plants (Dutartre et al., 2012; Frey et al., 1997; Handrick et al., 2016; Jonczyk et al., 2008; Meihls et al., 2013; Niemeyer, 2009; Oikawa et al., 2002) and their transformation into benzoxazolinones (Wouters et al., 2016). Structures of biosynthetic intermediates are shown in grey. Different mechanisms have been proposed for the multi-step degradation from the ring-opened configuration of benzoxazinones to the corresponding benzoxazolinone (Wouters et al., 2016).
