Description

Sebastes helvomaculatus Ayres, 1859.

Rosethorn Rockfish. To 43 cm (16.9 in) TL (Yamanaka 2005). Western Gulf of Alaska east of Sitkinak Island (Mecklenburg et al. 2002) to at least about U.S. -Mexican border (32°26.1’N, 119°06.6’W) (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California), or perhaps to Banco Ranger (28°33’N, 115°25’W), central Baja California (Snytko 1986), but without documentation. Benthic; depth: 27–1,151 m (89–3,775 ft ) (min.: DFO; max.: NWFSC-FRAM).
