Description

The final Fireside Chat of 2023 took place on the topic "Adopting open source in Data Science & AI across sectors" - video recording from the event is shared on our YouTube channel

This event marked the official launch of the Case Study Series from the first cohort of The Turing Way Practitioners Hub. Five case studes have been published on the Zenodo community page

This panel featured highlights from The Turing Way Practitioners Hub's Experts in Residence (EiRs) Lucy Stephenson (British Antarctic Survey), Rowan Hemsi (Office for National Statistics), Stephen Haben (Energy Systems Catapult), Wenjia Tang (DigiHaul) and Maxine Mackintosh from Genomics England. This panel was facilitated by Malvika Sharan (The Turing Way Co-Lead) and Raphael Sonabend, a previous EiR, Director of OSPO Now.

The Turing Way Practitioners Hub is an extension of The Turing Way to engage directly with experts from partnering organisations in their efforts to promote data science best practices. Through the involvement of domain experts from different sectors, the Practitioners Hub aims to foster a shared understanding of open science, reproducibility, accessibility and societal impact of data science and AI.

The Practitioners Hub was launched in June 2023 with the inaugural cohort of five EiRs (listed as speakers for this event) from sectors including government, healthcare, energy systems and transportation. Over the last 6 months, they have engaged with the project with an overarching goals to exchange knowledge, share insights from their work and identifying resources and skills to support as well as sustain their work in driving the adoption of best practices in their respective organisations. They have also contributed to five case studies, each capturing the state of open source/science in their organisations. These case studies will be formally launched at this Fireside Chat.
