The Sentinel Research Society (SRS) is a student-founded national security think tank affiliated with the Institute of World Politics (IWP) in Washington, DC. We bring together scholars, practitioners, and emerging leaders dedicated to addressing today’s most complex security challenges through innovative, interdisciplinary research.

At its core, SRS is committed to fostering nonpartisan dialogue, publishing original scholarship, and equipping the next generation of strategists and analysts. Our work spans traditional and emerging threats—ranging from great power competition and counterintelligence to cyber warfare, information operations, and statecraft in the gray zone.

Our Publications

SRS manages two primary publications, both of which are archived and indexed here on Zenodo:

  • The Sentinel Journal: A peer-reviewed academic journal publishing advanced research in national security, foreign policy, intelligence, and strategic studies. Articles adhere to the Chicago Manual of Style and undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process prior to publication.

  • The Sentinel Review: A curated policy magazine offering shorter essays, analysis, and commentary aimed at a broader policy and practitioner audience. Contributions are editorially reviewed and grounded in strategic insight and analytical clarity.

Our Mission

  • To bridge the gap between academic rigor and practical policymaking.

  • To cultivate a new generation of national security leaders through research, publication, and mentorship.

  • To contribute to the defense of liberal democracy by advancing whole-of-society approaches to strategy and statecraft.
