The POINT project aims to increase our understanding of how COVID-19 continues to affect patients' health long after the initial infection - the post-acute phase. The new insights into the biology of infection will be used to create new guidelines and tools for clinical use, by identifying biomarkers in patients and by developing a virtual twin model, which can help clinicians predict which patients are at risk of developing non-communicable diseases in lungs, heart or kidneys. This holds the potential to avoid the development of disease in thousands of patients and lower the significant socioeconomic burden associated with it.
