The KaziBantu project is a comprehensive school-based lifestyle intervention program aiming to promote health literacy in both children and educators of primary schools from disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB). It consist of two school-based health interventions, KaziKidz, a physical education, nutrition and hygiene toolkit for children and KaziHealth a workplace program for educators. It was implemented as a randomised controlled trial in 2019, where data were collected pre- and post-intervention for both children and teachers. After children with risk factors for chronic diseases were identified, a subsequent study followed-up these children over a period of 2 years, as well as their educators, collecting data at another 2 time points in 2021.
