HESS in Hospital Ampang, Malaysia, is a systematic organization of ethics services to address ethical issues in the hospital.
Objectives:
- To help physicians, patients, and relatives identify and analyze the nature of value uncertainty or conflict that underlies a consultation.
- To facilitate the resolution of conflicts among parties in a respectful atmosphere with attention to the interests, rights, and responsibilities of all those involved.
- To promote practices consistent with ethical norms and standards to create a working environment that is congruent with good ethical norms.
- To inform institutional efforts at policy development and quality improvement by identifying and deliberating on the causes of ethical concerns.
- To increase ethics knowledge and skills among healthcare workers in order to enhance the ethical practices in the delivery of healthcare.
- To empower and support healthcare personnel through the process of ethics deliberation by educational outreach and create more moral spaces in a hospital.
