What this community is

This community collects the open outputs of COST Action CA21141 - Grassroots of Digital Europe (GRADE), a European research network on grassroots cultures of creative computing. Grant Holder: University of Turku. 

What we accept

Outputs produced by, or arising from, the work of the Action and its Working Groups:

• Journal articles, preprints, book chapters
• White papers, policy digests, reports
• Working Group deliverables
• Datasets and bibliographies
• Open educational resources and teaching materials
• Software and code
• Conference presentations and posters
• Audiovisual material: microcasts, recorded sessions, workshop recordings, exhibition and event documentation

If your output was funded, produced or substantially shaped by GRADE activity, it belongs here - including work in progress and negative results.

What we do not accept

• Material you do not hold the rights to distribute
• Material under a closed or non-commercial-only licence
• Recordings of individuals who have not given consent
• Content unrelated to the Action

How to submit - step by step

1. Prepare your file. Use PDF/A for text, open formats for data (CSV, not XLSX), and name it:
   CA21141_GRADE_[WG]_[ShortTitle]
   Example: CA21141_GRADE_WG3_PreservingTheDemoscene.pdf      
2. Start the upload. Go to https://zenodo.org, log in, click New upload, and select this community: [grade-ca21141]
3. Choose the resource type. Pick the honest one - Publication (Article / Report / Preprint), Dataset, Video, Lesson, Software, Presentation. This is what lets others filter the collection.
4. Set the licence. This is mandatory: 
   • Text, media, presentations, teaching materials → CC BY 4.0
   • Data and bibliographies → CC0 BY 1.0
   • Software → MIT or EUPL 1.2 
5. List all creators, each with an ORCID. If you do not have an ORCID, create one free at https://orcid.org - it takes two minutes and ensures the work is correctly attributed to you for the rest of your career.
6. Acknowledge the funding. In the Funding field, search the awards list for 'CA21141' or 'COST' and select the matching award. [If the award is not listed: leave the Funding field empty and instead paste the acknowledgement below into the Description field.]
7. Add the keywords: COST Action CA21141, creative computing, digital grassroots, + WG1/WG2/WG3
8. Link the record back to the Action. Under Related identifiers, add https://costgrade.eu with the relation "is part of". If the work is also published elsewhere, add that DOI with the relation "is identical to" or "s supplement to".
9. Write a real description. Two or three sentences a non-specialist can understand. This is what appears in search results and what determines whether anyone opens your record.
10. Submit for review. Your record goes to a community curator, not straight into the collection.

How review works

All submissions are reviewed before acceptance. Curators check only the items above: licence, funder acknowledgement, keywords, creators, and that the output falls within scope. We do not peer-review the content, and we do not judge quality.

• Turnaround: normally within 48 hours.
• Records that do not meet the requirements are returned with a note asking you to correct them - not rejected. Correct and resubmit.
• Curators may edit metadata directly to fix minor issues (a missing tag, a typo in a keyword).

Rights, consent and privacy

You are responsible for holding the rights to everything you deposit, including images, screenshots, code listings and third-party media. For recordings of people - interviews, sessions, microcasts - consent must have been obtained before recording, using the Action's consent form. Do not deposit personal data.

Preservation

Every accepted record receives a DOI and is preserved by Zenodo at the CERN Data Centre, independently of the Action's website and of the Action's lifetime. Deposits made here will remain citable and accessible after the Action closes in October 2026.
