Brisk Rydberg Ions for Scalable Quantum Processors (BRISQ) is a research project funded by the European Union (Horizon Europe) under the European Research Council (EIC Pathfinder Open 2021).
Trapped ions are one of the most promising platforms for realising a practical quantum computer. Complementary, neutral atoms that are laser-excited to Rydberg states offer very strong and long-range interactions, which can be exploited for realising fast quantum gate operations. The EU-funded BRISQ project will combine both approaches – laser-excited trapped ions in Rydberg states – to build a highly promising physical platform to host a scalable quantum computer.
