Description

This is a MATLAB script that calculates drainage divide asymmetry using multiple geomorphic metrics through modifications to Scherler and Schwanghart's (2020) asymmetry function for TopoToolbox (Schwanghart and Scherler, 2014).

The script allows the user to calculate divide asymmetry using the following geomorphic metrics:
1 - Relief
      a) catchment-restricted local relief (CRR) -- requires additional script: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.8363610
      b) local relief
2 - hillslope gradient
3 - normalized channel steepness (ksn)
      a) with precipitation/discharge correction
      b) without precipitation/discharge correction
4 - normalized channel distance (χ)
      a) with precipitation/discharge correction
      b) without precipitation/discharge correction

Divide asymmetry is calculated using Scherler and Schwanghart's (2020) divide asymmetry index (DAI). Results are output as both points and lines (including divide Strahler order) and can be exported as ESRI shapefiles.

The zip file contains three MATLAB scripts:
1 - divide_asymmetry_V1_1.m: run this script to calculate divide asymmetry
2 - asymmetry_mod.m: modified asymmetry.m function that outputs:
      1) divide asymmetries as calculated by original asymmetry.m function
      2) divide asymmetries perpendicular to the divide orientation
3 - asymmetry_line_mod.m: same as other modified asymmetry.m function, but outputs lines instead of points
4 - bconfgrid.m: function that computes a raster of sub-catchments indexed by their downstream b-confluences (required for modified asymmetry.m scripts)
5 - reproject_or_align.m: script to reproject and align optional input grids for divide_asymmetry_V1_1.m
