Chisinau of the 50’s in the Memoirs of Ion Druță

Summary. The writer Ion Druță gained notoriety through his novels, which brought a breath 
of fresh air to literature, after the doctrinal era of socialist realism, describing the image, worries and 
joys of people in the villages of Moldova. He made his first literary attempts as a correspondent, 
working in the 50s for several newspapers in Chisinau. The urban realities of those years, exposed 
from the then-now perspective, create a form of “urban palimpsest” in the author’s memoiristic prose.
