On the Edge: Marking the impact of the CEI continuum on skills demands

The fusion of Cloud and IoT technologies, bolstered by innovations like intelligent devices, federated AI systems, and smart networks, has given rise to the computing continuum. This continuum showcases the interplay between various technologies. LEADS, in collaboration with the EU Cloud-Edge-IoT Initiative via the UNLOCK-CEI project, explored the connection between CEI use cases and the digital skills needed for their utilisation. Europe faces a skills gap in its economy, with advanced digital technologies being pivotal for growth. Addressing this skills deficit is vital for the adoption of next-gen technologies. LEADS' research indicates a growing demand for Advanced Digital Skills (ADS), especially in AI and Data Science, emphasising the urgency for skill development investments. While nearly 28.5% of Higher Education Institution courses fall under ADS, there's a need for policy interventions to bridge the skill supply-demand gap. The evolving tech landscape, marked by the rise of edge computing, necessitates reevaluating future skill requirements in the digital realm.
