Description
This study analyzes the development, more specifically, the human dimension, as a way of opposing the economic dimension only. The context of the analysis takes place at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic and the objective is to analyze the impacts of the pandemic on human development and on the freedom of individuals. It is therefore a theoretical proposition brings contributions to understand of development from Celso Furtado, Ignacy Sachs and Amartya Sen. The results of this analysis indicate that the COVID-19 pandemic was a trigger to accentuate the economic and social crises, as the world scenario itself was already fragile, reflecting negatively on the HDI indicators that retreated. Thus, it is concluded that the passage of this pandemic has made the picture of social and economic inequalities more evident, present when analyzing the center and peripheries of the world, but also the social discrepancies present within the countries themselves, whether they are developed or in development.
