FIGURE 4 Proteus anguinus larva (captive-bred from Tular Cave Laboratory, photograph by Gregor Aljančič) and Salamandra salamandra larva in comparison. Both larvae are about 3 cm in size. Note the difference in size and shape of the head and trunk length, but similarities in presence of eyes and pigmentation.
