What we missed the most in stellar spectroscopic surveys - Invited talk at ESO Spectral Fidelity Conference 2023

  • 1. ANU

Description

Thanks to groundbreaking instrumentation and surveys, we have made tremendous advances in spectroscopy. For this talk, I have been asked to speak on the topic of 'what we have missed the most in Surveys'.

But I need your help!

At the end of the conference, I hope to collect an overview for our future guidance of *WHAT* we have missed as a function of *IMPORTANCE* and *URGENCY*:

IMPORTANCE

My talk will canvas topics such as: radial velocities, element coverage, open issues between surveys, isotope ratios, 3D NLTE, spectrum synthesis (continuum and absorption), line data, unexpected absorption features, uncertainties, survey cross-validation, holistic spectroscopy (inference when adding astrometry, photometry, and asteroseismology), atomic diffusion, stellar activity, binarity in exploratory studies and rolled out in surveys, fitting residuals and interstellar medium, extragalactic spectroscopy and more.
