Karnataka has witnessed many social, political, cultural religious, linguistic and agrarian movements at different periods in the past. “The Social Reform Movement”, launched and pioneered by several saints in medieval Karnataka was a bloodless revolution intended to transform the dogmatic and feudalistic society into a humanistic and holistic one based on fraternity, dignity, equality and harmony. It was Basaveshwara, a saintly reformer who stood in the forefront with indomitable will and tenacity to change the traditional Hindu society. His charismatic leadership and humanistic scholarship made him emerges as an able and frontline reformer.
