Description

Mie-ken, Matsusaka-shi, Iitakachō Haze (三重県松阪市飯高町波瀬). Bell at Taiun-ji Temple (天開山口窄泰運寺), located at 34°26'0"N 136°9'7"E.

Notes

The Taiun-ji temple, founded in 1740, is known for its octagonal bell completed 18 March 1783. The exterior faces of the bell carry parts of the Saddharmapuṇḍarīka Sūtra (Chinese: 妙法蓮華經; Japanese: 妙法蓮華経 Myōhō Renge Kyō) in 69384 characters. The interior inscription records the donors, the history of the temple, and details about the celebration of the bell's completion. Dimensions: h. 2.42m; d. 1.36m; Weight: 4.87t.
