Description
Rhyacophila loeffleri Valladolid & Waringer, n. sp.
Introduction: This species has been found widely distributed in Austria and Switzerland, as well as in small areas of northeastern Italy, southcentral Czech Republic, southern Germany and northern France. Probably the species can be found also in northeastern France and northern Slovenia, but these areas should be studied in detail. The male and female of this new species were described previously by Valladolid et al. (2018) as R. fasciata.
Derivatio nominis: Given in honour of Professor Dr Heinz Löffler (17.iii.1927 – 13.x.2006), Austrian (paleo-) limnologist, ecologist and environmentalist. Professor of Limnology at the University of Vienna, Austria. Together with his mentor (G. E. Hutchinson), he established the thermal classification of lakes (mixis types) in a world-wide context (Hutchinson & Löffler 1956).
