Description
Colombia has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 51% by 2030 as part of the Paris Agreement, with an additional target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The energy sector accounts for a third of emissions net GHG emissions in the country; therefore, its decarbonization is crucial to enable the achievement of these goals. In this study, we evaluate plausible decarbonization pathways using an open source national energy system optimization model (OSeMOSYS). We assessed three scenarios over 2015-2070 and compared them in terms of emissions, energy consumption, technology deployment, costs and benefits.
