The aim of this chapter is to provide an overview of the crucial role that education performs in the effort to achieve sustainable development. According to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, sustainable development entails a wide variety of interrelated social, economic, and environmental goals. SDG 4 especially addresses the importance of high-quality education and sets out to provide inclusive and equitable education for everyone, encourage opportunities for lifelong learning, and improve educational outcomes. The SDG 4 targets and indicators will be discussed in this chapter, with an emphasis on the connections between SDG 4 and other SDGs. In addition to the programs implemented by India, several state-specific projects are focused on providing all people with access to high-quality education, and numerous plans are being illustrated. Policymakers, educators, and stakeholders may collaborate to harness the transformative power of education to build a more sustainable and inclusive future by understanding the connection between education and sustainable development.
