Description

Azerbaijan population has been investigated using 15 STR markers that constitute the basic set of human
identification. In this study the chromosomal DNA isolated from 205 unrelated individuals has been used,
and an allelic composition has been established for each STR marker. For each STR loci: allele types
(homo- and heterozygous), their actual (observed, Hohs) and expected (Hesp) frequencies, genetic diversity
index (GD), power of exclusion (PE), power of discrimination (PD), polymorphic information content (PIC)
have been calculated. Studies have shown that the number of identified homozygous alleles varies between
44-138, heterozygous alleles 272-366, the frequency of separate alleles between 0.0024-0.4951, the total
frequencies of actually observed heterozygous alleles at loci 0.7171-0.8927, their expected frequencies
whole locus (the degree of heterozygosity) 0.8184-0.9073, index of loci genetic diversity 0.6628-0.8748, loci
exclusion ability (power) 0.373-0.7805, discrimination power (probability) 0.8204-0.9095, and the poly-
morphic information content 946-0.8999. These parameters are quite high levels and the revealed
frequencies of STR loci alleles can be recommended as reference frequencies in solving the various prob-
lems of identification, including the forensic-medical examination practice.
