ROR in Repositories Workshop
Description
The ROR in Repositories workshop will introduce participants to the Research Organization Registry (ROR); teach participants to search the ROR API; go over the importance of ROR IDs in DataCite DOIs; and facilitate discussion of ROR in repositories. Organizational identifiers such as ROR IDs help to regularize organization affiliation information in the same way that ORCID IDs help to regularize author and contributor identities, enabling repositories to know with more certainty which of its items are associated with a particular organization. ROR is the only organization identifier that is free of charge and provided as CC0 data available via an open REST API and public data dump, specifically focused on identifying affiliations in scholarly metadata, developed as a community initiative to meet community use cases, and preferred by open scholarly infrastructure platforms such as Crossref, DataCite, and ORCID. The workshop will be a mix of presentation, hands-on exercises querying ROR and DataCite APIs, and collaborating via shared documents to provide feedback on ROR integration in repositories. Our ultimate goal in this workshop is to give Open Repositories attendees the knowledge and skills they need to assess whether ROR can help their repositories demonstrate their value.
