Upgrade to DSpace 7

Support for version 6.4 of the DSpace application will be ending 1 July 2023 and many institutions who use DSpace as their preferred software solution to host a digital repository will become hard pressed to upgrade their version 6.x installations to the latest stable version of DSpace 7. The software archicture of version 7 of the application stack differs from the previous generations of DSpace and the upgrade and/or migration process is also different. This workshop will prepare attendees to upgrade their existing DSpace 6.x installations to DSpace 7.x. by explaining the key differences between the DSpace 6.x and DSpace 7.x application architectures, and by giving an overview of how the upgrade process differs from the DSpace 6.x release iterative upgrades. The workshop will overview both an in-place upgrade procedure as well as a clean install and database migration procedure. The target audience for the workshop are system administrators familiar with the Linux server operating environment and who take responsibility, or will be taking responsibility, for the technical maintenance of their institutional digital repositories. The workshop will be hands-on with attendees working on a pre-installed copy of the DSpace application stack in a fully equipped electronic classroom setup.
