HSbooster.eu Gaming Session 1: Serious Smiling Game

HSbooster.eu organised its first gaming session of the HSbooster.eu Training Academy on 20 June 2023. We had a great time playing the "Serious Smiling" game, which provided applied training on working within a Technical Committee (TC) or Working Group (WG), argumentation skills, understanding standardisation context, and strategic positioning.

Training in negotiation skills is a recommendation in the EC’s Code of Practice for Standardisation where HSbooster.eu is directly cited. The Serious Smiling Game is a role-playing game that simulates the discussion in an ad hoc working group within the imaginary organisation for standardisation. This game aims to develop soft skills needed in standardisation processes, focusing on argumentation skills, strategic positioning, building compromise and common understanding. This serious game is developed by HSbooster.eu and House of Knowledge. It can be played onsite and online.

The Serious Smiling Game online version is played in teams of five members each. Each team has its own facilitator, trained to support the players when necessary. Twenty players can participate in one term. You play as a team against each other but also as a team against the game.
