Description

This paper presents the design and evaluation of a new head-up display (HUD) to be used in conditionally automated vehicles to provide appropriate situational awareness to the driver. Thirty participants took part in the evaluation study, which was conducted in a high-fidelity motion-based driving simulator. The HUD was evaluated in terms of user-experience, perceived usability and user acceptance of new telematics solutions in transportation. User experience results showed average scores for stimulation, and above average scores for attractiveness, perspicuity, efficiency, dependability and novelty. Above average score (M = 87.471 percentile, SD = 9.88; A-) was also obtained for perceived usability. Consistent with user experience and usability, user acceptance of HUD was also high, with mean scores for usefulness M = 1.281 (SD = 0.517) and satisfaction M = 0.828 (SD = 0.401) on a scale of -2 to +2.
