Prin articolul curent îmi propun să aduc în discuție o dilemă ce persistă de mult timp în practica clinică, și anume care este momentul optim de inițiere a psihoterapiei în tratamentul tulburărilor depresive. În următoarele paragrafe voi analiza succint recomandările de tratament ale depresiei conform ghidurilor curente, voi discuta în conformitate cu literatura de specialitate care sunt tipurile de psihoterapie care s-au dovedit eficiente în tratarea acestei psihopatologii și voi menționa rezultatele ultimelor studii care au analizat efectele terapiei psihologice asupra simptomatologiei depresive în funcție de momentul inițierii și de asocierea cu tratamentul psihofarmacologic. La finalul articolului, vom concluziona cu ce înseamnă o bună practică în ceea ce privește inițierea psihoterapiei în tratamentul depresiei.
