This paper is a review of the book entitled Sirozîler: Âyânlıktan İlmiyeye Bir Hanedânlığın Öyküsü [The Sirozis: Story of a Dynasty from Provincial Elites to Ulema] by Muharrem Varol on the famous provincial elite family from Siroz. After briefly introducing the chapters, it evaluates the research methods and findings of the book in comparison with the relevant literature. The book tells the family’s history in dialog with contemporary paradigms in the field of âyân (provincial elites) studies. Discussing the relationship between the individual and the structural, the author contributes to the literature on Ottoman âyâns.
