Plastic Decoration of Porcelain-faience in Ukraine in the Late 18th – Early 21st Centuries
Description
The article is devoted to the features of development of plastic decoration of Ukrainian porcelain and faience in the late 18th – early 21st centuries. Sculptural elements of crockery of various European and Asian countries, which became the basis for the emergence of domestic analogues, were considered. The specificity of applying plastic decoration to Ukrainian fine ceramics from the late 18th century to present time was distinguished. The purpose of the article is to analyze the examples of plastic decoration of porcelain-faience in Ukraine in the late 18th – early 21st centuries, and to detect the specificity of using certain motives. The research methodology consisted in the historical and cultural method (for revealing the derivatives of Ukrainian sculptural decoration in domestic fine ceramics); the historical-comparative method (for drawing parallels with the history of world art); the method of theoretical generalization (for interpreting the existence of certain varieties of plastic decoration in Ukrainian porcelain-faience crockery); the method of art critical analysis (for revealing the artistic features of works of domestic «white gold»). The scientific novelty of the work lies in the systematization of the information regarding the application of sculptural decoration to Ukrainian fine ceramics since the era of Classicism. Conclusions. The research showed that plastic decoration was applied to porcelain-faience in Ukraine from the late 18th to early 21st century. It was represented mostly by motives of sheep, goat nebs, human faces in the shape of masks, swan and snake necks with heads, rolls (mainly as decorations of handles of crockery and vases), lion’s single or coupled paws (primarily, to decorate legs of the products), covers in the form of flower buds, and motives of a plum, a lamb, an angel, a stone pine cone, a pineapple, a sultan, etc.
