COVID-19 Supporting Message Portrayed in BTS – Permission to Dance Song Lyrics

This study concerns the messages that support the people after the COVID-19 pandemic in BTS song lyrics titled Permission to Dance portrayed by the illocutionary act. The data in this article are obtained from BTS song lyrics titled Permission to Dance. Speech act theory by Searle (1979) and Function of Illocutionary Act by Leech (1983) analyze the illocutionary act used in the song lyrics and the function of uttering them. Context is applied to obtain the message in those song lyrics, while descriptive qualitative analysis presents the data. Furthermore, two types of illocutionary acts were found in this data a form of stating and commanding. This data mostly showed competitive function.
