Description

This paper focuses on the second of Philostratus’ Imagines that depicts the sanctuary of Zeus at Dodona, where there is also the bronze statue of Echo. The aim is to identify the meaning of the text through analysis of the multisensory dimension which is very prominent and to demonstrate that the statue of Echo is an invention rather than a real statue in the sanctuary and a ‘hyperreal representation, in which the sign, described as real, is without an original referent’, according to the definition by Baudrillard.
