OAK LACE BUG CORYTHUCHA ARCUATA (SAY, 1832) (HEMIPTERA: TINGIDAE) – A NEW DANGEROUS OAK PEST IN DONBASS

  • 1. Donetsk botanical Garden

Description

The paper gives the first record of the North American representative of the family of lace bugs (Hemiptera: Tingidae), namely oak lace bug Corythucha arcuata (Say, 1832) in Donbass. The recording of C. arcuata at the first invasion stages in native forests and city green spaces indicates a high invasive potential of this species. In Donbass C. arcuata is likely to feed mainly on pedunculate oak (Q. robur), and on representatives of 12 genera of trees and shrubs as additional species. In view of the negative consequences of invasion of C. arcuata in the forests of the South of Russia, there is a need for large-scale forest surveys involving oak in 2023 to early detection of pest outbreaks. It is also necessary to study the biology of this species in the region for more efficient forest protection measures.
