Description
»Beiaard« is the Dutch word for carillon, an instrument with asound that can carry over a town centre, an abbey or a universitycampus and be heard by many people, intentionally or just whilepassing by. In the Low Countries, in France, Germany and England, the carillon is a central part of the soundscape of many cities sincethe Middle Ages. The author of this book about the origins of the carillon, Luc Rombouts, has published a revised Dutch versionof his PhD thesis »The Origin of the Carillon. Roots, Conceptionand Development« until 1530, that he completed in 2016 at the University of Utrecht and that is reviewed here.
