Amblyomma longirostre
Authors/Creators
Description
71. Amblyomma longirostre (Koch, 1844a).
Neotropical: 1) Argentina, 2) Belize, 3) Bolivia, 4) Brazil, 5) Colombia, 6) Costa Rica, 7) Ecuador, 8) French Guiana, 9) Honduras, 10) Mexico (south), 11) Panama, 12) Paraguay, 13) Peru, 14) Trinidad and Tobago, 15) Uruguay, 16) Venezuela (Fairchild et al. 1966, Jones et al. 1972, Guimar ã es et al. 2001, Alvarez et al. 2005, Nava et al. 2010b, 2017, Guzmán-Cornejo et al. 2011, Binetruy et al. 2019, CardonaRomero et al. 2020, Guglielmone et al. 2021).
In Brazil, adults of Amblyomma geayi and Amblyomma parkeri have sometimes been confused with those of Amblyomma longirostre (Labruna et al. 2009). The nymphs of these species are also morphologically similar (Martins et al. 2010, 2013); therefore, additional instances of confusion between nymphs (and larvae) have probably occurred.
Nymphs and larvae of Amblyomma longirostre have been collected in the Nearctic Region on birds migrating from the Neotropics, and one field-collected male was found in the USA (Noden et al. 2015), although this species is not thought to be established there. Rawlins et al. (1993) included Guyana and Jamaica within the geographic distribution of Amblyomma longirostre, but no records from those countries have been found.
