A Study On Ecocriticism: A Bridge Between Man And Nature

Human beings live in the realm of nature; they are constantly surrounded by it and interact with it. Man’s behaviour towards nature has been different down the centuries. Man being a dominant figure shows his potential over environment by exploring earth’s resources continuously and causing destruction without any precaution. The annihilation of nature would result in the eradication of mankind. When this perception is understood, one can understand the aspects of ecocriticism which deal with the relationship between literature and nature and which has been readily accepted worldwide. Man is constantly aware of the influence of nature in the form of the air he breathes, the water he drinks, the food he eats and the flow of energy and information. Many of his troubles are a response to the natural processes and changes in the weather, intensified on radiation of cosmic energy and the magnetic storms that rage around the earth. In short, man is connected with nature by blood and he cannot live outside nature. Nowhere does nature affect humanity in exactly the same way as is done on earth. Its influence varies. Depending on where human beings happen to be on the earth's surface, it reveals its various aspects in the form of light, warmth, water, precipitation, flora and fauna.
