The book is the result of the WP1 work, lead by Cesefor in collaboration with Universidad de Valladolid, of the EGURALT project, financed with Feder funds through the Interreg SUDOE program

Abstract

This work analyses the current situation of the construction of medium- and highrise timber-framed buildings on the international scene, with a special focus on the Sudoe region: Spain, Portugal and part of the south of France. To this end, it begins with a review of the historical path that structural timber has followed from its origins, reaching different heights until reaching the astonishing heights of today. A review of the technical evolution of wood from its original solid sawn version to today's innovative industrialized products for structural use is included, as well as some technical and regulatory limitations. Three Annexes are included with the identification of 100 buildings according to the mentioned thematic (Annex 1), with individualized sheets of 28 of them (Annex 2) and 7 extended with more complete documentation of them (Annex 3). As a corollary, wood is today postulated as the material of the 21st century. A material in continuous development, with great potential to respond to the demand for decarbonized, efficient and sustainable construction materials of the present and the immediate future; a material that will lead a desirable paradigm shift in the construction of our future cities.
